I could have bursts of traffic here and there – I don’t plan on a lot of traffic right off the bat, but there is the possibility that I will get a lot of traffic at random times and stuff. So what is the best hosting plan for me? (note money is an issue, but I also want the flexibility of a solid plan)

your website will also take around the half hour. for your hosting account to get active

How do I transfer current joomla files over to yahoo web hosting?

I am currently using the joomla 30 day demo trial. How do I transfer the files that I already made on the demo site to my yahoo hosting account? All my files are in the back-end editor and I am not sure how to transfer them to my host site. Please help this neophyte joomla user!!!

Joomla doesn’t have a 30 day trial. It’s free to begin with. You probably have a 30 day trial on some hosting service.
To move Joomla from one hosting to another one I recommend using Akeeba backup extension. It will save you a lot of time. It allows you to back up complete Joomla install (including files and database) on one server and restore them on a new one. It will take care of all directory re-mappings etc. Otherwise, if you do it manually over FTP you may end up with non-working install until you tweak all directories etc.

Can you help me with my web hosting problem?

I registered for an account on www.netfast.org (free web hosting). They organize your files with an FTP like system. I uploaded what I wanted to be my home page, but whenever you type in the address to my site (www.mpracingteam.netfast.org), it brings up the “index of /” page. How can I make it so that the file I uploaded (home.htm) is the page visitors see when they type in the basic URL? Also, how can I make it so that they can’t access my FTP? Thanks!

usually, web sites have a default page
named “default.htm” or “index.htm” which
gets returned if a page isn’t specified in the url.
For your page to come up as it stands now,
someone would have to type
www.mpracingteam.netfast.org/home.htm.
The easiest thing for you to do would be to rename the
home.htm page to index.html.

For the second part of your question, somewhere in your
control panel should be something which says “deny directory listing” or something like that.
That has to be enabled for anyone to be blocked from viewing your directory.
