What is the best web hosting service for a personal website?
I have recently been intrested in making a good website and I’ve been searching for good web hosting services. So I was wondering what would be a good option?
Considerations:
Windows XP compatible
no advertisements
get a *.com domain
cheap!
Microsoft Frontpage extention support
CGI script support———————–
Thank you for you feedback, it will really help be find the proper services I require.
Answer:
If you want your own domain for cheap (free)…Microsoft Office Live offers a free domain. By offering this free domain they are hoping to snag a large market share since nobody else offers a free domain. It will require a credit card for verification and they will put a logo on your site, but hey it’s free! (They also have an upgrade option if you want to purchase).
BTW – If you want to actually purchase a domain I would recommend http://www.godaddy.com

I have applied for two domain names and one web hosting, can i create two websites?
Can I make one website for each domain name for both web addresses from the same web hosting service?
Answer:
Depends. If your webhost uses cpanel (most webhosts do) you can set addon domains IF and only if the webhost allows. They have the power to turn this feature off if they want you to pay for an additional hosting package for extra domains. For example: My hosting company is siteground. They don’t allow addon domains in cpanel.
On the other hand, if you want to set both domain names to go to the same website, this is done using “parked domains”. This is almost always available with web hosts using cpanel.

What web hosting service should I use?
I am starting up a website for a guild in a MMO. I am trying to find a good hosting service. In my imaginary reality it would be free, but I know that may not be a possibility especially as I can’t stand ads. I won’t be needing to do much. Just a small forum, a calendar, and information about our more active members and officers. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Answer:
I’d recommend iPage as the best web hosting company and their plans are affordable too. iPage is a 10 year old company providing excellent and amazing service in Website Hosting and Domain Registration. The web hosting company offers Unlimited Disk Space and Unlimited Monthly Transfer on Bandwidth. iPage is offering great discount offer on its domain & hosting services. I’ve used their services and I’m satisfied. http://www.webhostingbreak.com/hosting-plan/ipage-coupon/.
Good luck and i hope it helps. -
What type of features should the web hosting service have?
I’m trying to figure out the best route for my hypothetical online t-shirt shop. (It’s an assignment).
I’m trying to figure out which hosting would be best. What type of features do you think I’d need?
And would I need linux or windows? Why would I need windows? Why would I need to use SQL?
Answer:
Hi,
When choosing a web host it’s of course important to consider the cost (some hosting can be very expensive) but here are some other important things you should take into consideration too:
Web Hosting Space: Some web hosts will only give you 500MB or so of space. This could be a concern if you are looking at creating large websites.
Bandwidth: Some web hosts will severely limit the bandwidth you can use before you incur extra charges.
Uptime: There’s no point in having a website if people can’t see it. Does your web host offer at least a 99% uptime guarantee?
Number of websites allowed: If you’re looking to host more than one website on your account, will your web host charge you more to do this?
Support: If you have any problems you need to be able to contact your web host quickly and easily to get the problem sorted.
I have used Hostgator as my web host for over two years now and have been very very impressed with them. Firstly they’re very cheap but still give me more web hosting space and bandwidth than I’ll ever need, the ability to host unlimited websites, a 99.9% uptime guarantee and great customer support. You can find them at http://www.webhostgator.info

You should be able to earn the same way even with a free provider. You just need to make sure you use providers that don’t have their ads on them such as blogger.com, wordpress.com or http://www.000webhost.com/110849.html
Good luck.

Is there a difference between web hosting and web server?
I am looking to transfer my website from a friends to a server of my own. Not sure what the difference is between hosting and server. Also would appreciate any recommendations.
Answer:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation.
The term web server can mean one of two things:
1. A computer program that is responsible for accepting HTTP requests from web clients, which are known as web browsers, and serving them HTTP responses along with optional data contents, which usually are web pages such as HTML documents and linked objects (images, etc.).
2. A computer that runs a computer program as described above. -

What is the best web hosting company?
I have started my own blogs in the past on blogger and wordpress, but now I would like to set up my own domain and create a hosted site, so that I can add my own scripts etc. I need a hosting site that is good value and reliable with friendly and helpful customer service. Any ideas?
Answer:
Personally Hostgator is one of my favourite hosting companies for many reasons. One of which I have to say is that they recently went green. They purchase renewable energy credits up to 130% of their total power consumption. I realise that is not the best reason for choosing a host, so here is some more info to help you make your decision. Their customer service is helpful and friendly unlike some other hosts I have tried. I also find their control panel really easy to use. All in all it has been a good experience.
1. Customer Friendly and Excellent Support – Hostgator are well known for providing excellent support and that makes all the difference when you are sorting out your hosting package.
2. Uses Cpanel – This is one of the easiest ways to manage your website hosting. Cpanel is known to be very user friendly and is one of the most populat interfaced. Hostgator uses Cpanel, making is easy to manage your hosting.
3. They support PHP4 & 5, SSH, Cron jobs, Python, Ruby On Rails etc. Also, all the packages include enough POP3 accounts(20 for Hatchling and unlimited for others).
4. Dual Xeon servers – Reliable and fast
5. 99.9% guaranteed uptime.
6. Price – Hostgator is very fairly priced and gives you all the resources you need from a shared host.
